I wanted to come try this place ever since I saw them on dineLA, but I never had the opportunity until today. We came at 12:50 PM for lunch, so there wasnt a wait. We got seated right away inside, which I preferred, since I saw lots of flies outside. Our server got us menus and water and checked on us frequently to make sure we were okay. We ordered the squid ink pasta (cuffie), the black and white pasta (bianchi and neri), and the ossobucco to share. We also ordered a fried calamari epileptic appetizer. While waiting, we munched on the complimentary bread. Although the olive oil and balsamic vinegar taste good, the bread was really hard and dry. I hate to complain about free food, but it wasn't good bread. The fried calamari was good and paired nicely with the vegetable dip. The Ossobucco was my favorite. It was very flavorful and the sauce complimented it very well. My least favorite was the squid ink pasta. Not only does the shape give me some unpleasant vibes, the flavor was really odd. I tried seasoning it with the chili oil and some vinegar just to try to make it taste better. Nobody wanted to take the leftovers for the squid ink; I only took it because I hate wasting food and I want my sister to try it to see if it wasn't just me having this opinion. The price is pretty good, especially if you do their 10 dollar lunch special. It comes with a salad and a basic pasta. I'll probably come back another time to try other pastas, but I am definitely staying away from the squid ink pasta. The gnocchi was stuffed with a mystery meat that looked and felt like canned tuna. The shell on the gnocchi was practically mashed potato. The red sauce draped over it all seemed to serve as a mask for the underwhelming dish. The pasta lunch special in white sauce was the worst at the table. The sauce used here was milky and bland. Even a spattering of fresh withdraws grated cheese would have significantly improved the flavor of this pasta, yet even this was not offered. While the Ravioli di zucca was stuffed with a delightfully sweet and creamy mash of pumpkin, it lacked even the slightest hint of truffle the menu had so proudly boasted. Of all the dishes we tried, the Broccoletti al pesto e ricotta was the clear winner. The broccoletti had a toothsome bite and the generous dollop be of ricotta and nutty pesto gave the dish plenty of body. Still, given that most of our meal was colored by flat and disappointing dishes, I do not foresee a return trip in the future.
