The main thing we need to sort out is the irrigation system for the community garden. I checked with the supplier and they have drip line kits that would work well for the layout we planned. Each raised bed would need its own line running from the main spigot and we would want to install a timer so it waters automatically in the early morning. The cost for all the materials comes to about what we estimated in the initial budget. I also looked into what kind of soil mix to use and found a local landscape supply that delivers. They recommended a blend of topsoil and compost that would be good for vegetables. The work day is still on for next Saturday and we have about eight people confirmed so far. If you could bring the extra shovels and gloves that would help a lot. I think we can get a lot done in one day if we start early and split into teams for the different tasks. The weather forecast looks favorable so we should be good to work outside.

The key with that recipe is not to rush the caramelization process on the onions. I found that cooking them on medium-low heat for about twenty minutes brings out the sweetness without burning them. You want them to be golden brown and soft before adding any liquid. As for the protein you can substitute chicken for the beef if you prefer, just adjust the cooking time accordingly. The sauce will thicken nicely if you let it simmer uncovered for the last ten minutes. I also added a splash of balsamic vinegar at the end which gave it a nice tangy finish. The leftovers reheated well the next day for lunch. If you are planning to make it for the dinner party I would suggest prepping the onions and chopping the vegetables the night before to save time. The recipe itself is pretty forgiving so you can adjust the seasonings to your taste. Let me know if you need me to write down the modifications I made.
