I finally finished that book we were discussing and I have to say the ending caught me off guard. I was not expecting the main character to make that choice but looking back there were hints throughout the earlier chapters. The author did a good job of building up the tension without making it too obvious. I think the theme of forgiveness ran through the whole story and that part at the beach really drove it home. I jotted down some notes for our next meeting. The discussion questions at the back of the book were actually helpful for thinking about the deeper meaning. I especially liked the chapter about the old lighthouse. That imagery was really well done. I am curious to hear what everyone else thought about the pacing because I felt like the middle section dragged just a tiny bit. Overall I would give it a solid four out of five.
